Thoroughbred Owners of California
Unlike most members of society at large, many members of the inaugural “Women of Influence” feature can lay claim to being the first to do this or the first to do that. Count Marsha Naify among that group.
Naify has at least two “firsts” attached to her name. In 2006, the former film broker for United Artists became the first women to chair the Thoroughbred Owners of California (TOC) board of directors. A year later she became the first female member of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association board of directors. She still occupies both positions, in addition to serving as chairwoman of the TOC’s medication and integrity committee.
The selection to this feature is also not the first for Naify as she was named one of California’s outstanding women in racing at a luncheon at Santa Anita Park in April 2008.
In addition to her roles with TOC and the NTRA, Naify is an owner, continuing a family tradition started by her late father and 505 Farms owner Marshall Naify. Interested in racing since her childhood, Naify has owned or co-owned graded stakes winners Dublino, Amorama (Fr), Blackdoun (Fr), Ballingarry (Ire), Stoneside (Ire), Street Boss, and Surf Cat and Grade 1-placed Free Flying Soul.
