DOTTIE INGORDO-SHIRREFFS
Jerry and Ann Moss Racing Stable
Dottie Ingordo-Shirreffs has been involved in Thoroughbred racing her entire adult life, but the last decade has been one thrill after another.
Ingordo-Shirreffs has been the racing manager for Jerry and Ann Moss since the mid-1980s, and she interviewed John Shirreffs in 2000 as a candidate to train for the couple. Shirreffs got the job. Three years later, she and Shirreffs were married.
In 2005, Giacomo scored an upset victory for the Mosses and Shirreffs in the Kentucky Derby (G1). Thirteen years earlier, Ingordo-Shirreffs advised the Mosses on their purchase of Giacomo’s dam, Set Them Free, by Stop the Music, for $45,000 in the 1992 Fasig-Tipton Calder sale of selected two-year-olds in training.
Also in 2005, the Mosses bought Zenyatta for $60,000 at the Keeneland September yearling sale on the advice of Ingordo-Shirreffs’ son, bloodstock agent David Ingordo.
The entire team has enjoyed a special ride together as Zenyatta blossomed into an undefeated two-time champion older female and the first female winner of the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1).
“Both [Giacomo and Zenyatta] have done some very special things,” she said. “Giacomo is a homebred for the Mosses and I remember standing at the barn at the Fasig-Tipton two-year-olds in training sale looking at his dam, Set Them Free, and then buying her. Then Zenyatta, what can I say? Her accomplishments are amazing.”
Date of birth: “I’m a Leo, August 10. In my family, my mom never made references to years for either herself or my sisters, thus, I do not either. So, ‘I’m a Leo, August 10,’ is my response.”

Dottie is a real class act and an inspiration. Her love of dogs and horses has endeared her to me and especially Zenyatta's fans. Her Daily Diary posted on Zenyatta.Com is not only a wonderful way for us fans to interact with or favorite horse but to learn so much about all the facets of the industry. I am so happy for her and the whole Zenyatta team that HOTY was finally bestowed on "Queen Z." Sophie's butterfly outfit was truly a good luck charm! The future looks so bright as we all anxiously await Zenyatta's offspring and the success of all at Barn 55.
