AMY ZIMMERMAN
HorseRacing TV
Very few members of the media can say they have been credentialed for and attended each of the 26 editions of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. Even fewer can say they also were a part of more than a dozen Eclipse Award-winning television shows or features. Amy Zimmerman can say both.
Currently executive producer and senior vice president of production and programming at HorseRacing Television, Zimmerman essentially is behind nearly every televised Thoroughbred racing event as she also does work for NBC Sports and for ABC and ESPN.
She also produces other sporting events, including the gymnastics portion of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing and even cross-country antique car rallies for ESPN and the History Channel.
Despite all of the accolades and accomplishments, Zimmerman stays humble and continues to go about her job with enthusiasm and dedication. She considers her biggest personal achievement continuing “to do what I love with people I care about while getting paid for it.”
“I was the little girl who didn’t grow up in racing, but fell in love with it over the television,” Zimmerman said after learning she was selected for the “Women of Influence” feature. “I often hope when I produce shows that I am able to reach another little girl on the other side of the screen.”
She has a positive outlook for the Thoroughbred industry with a large caveat: “only with the acceptance by all stakeholders—tracks, owners, trainers, breeders, jockeys, bettors, legislators, et cetera—that racing will not survive without all of them finally working together toward that goal.”
