Contender Status
Trainer Bill Mott is considering Riley Tucker for the Preakness Stakes (G1).
Edgar Prado had been scheduled to ride El Gato Malo in the race, but when West Point Thoroughbreds decided to send El Gato Malo to the May 10 Lone Star Derby (G3) Mott tabbed Prado to ride Riley Tucker if he decides to run.
May 12 - Five furlongs breezing in 1:06.09 at Belmont Park, training track fast. 14th best of 14 workouts at the distance.
May 6 - Four furlongs breezing in :50.64 at Belmont Park, track fast. 16th best of 22 workouts at the distance.
Preakness Stakes (G1) on May 17 at Pimlico Race Course
Jockey Edgar Prado, who rode Riley Tucker in his first two starts as a juvenile and again in the Central Bank Transylvania Stakes (G3) on April 4:
"It seems like the horse is maturing. I don't think Billy would put him in the race if he didn't have a chance to win it. I know it's going to be very tough competition, but we're looking forward to giving it a try."
