The dynamic WinStar Farm owners, entrepreneurs Kenny Troutt and Bill Casner, have efficiently transferred the business acumen that brought them success in such ventures as Excel Communications to the raising of champion racehorses. Since their purchase of the former Prestonwood Farm in early 2000, Troutt and Casner have built WinStar into one of the country's premier Thoroughbred operations. Over the past few years, WinStar's formidable broodmare band has produced such worldwide standouts as dual American classic winner and champion Funny Cide, two-time English highweight Lucky Story, Irish highweight One Cool Cat, and Grade 1 winners Sharp Lisa and Spring at Last.
Expanding the original purchase to 1,450 acres and undertaking major renovation and construction projects to improve the property, Casner and Troutt have transformed WinStar into a stunning showplace suitable for the high-class stallions it is attracting. Additions have included a new foaling barn, lab, offices, and a training complex.
The late, great sire Kris S. was part of the original Prestonwood purchase, along with leading sire Distorted Humor; WinStar has since partnered with Taylor Made Farm to add 2005 leading freshman sire Tiznow and 2004 champion sprinter Speightstown to the roster.
WinStar's all-star staff includes President Doug Cauthen and Vice President Elliott Walden.
