Magic Millions Tasmanian sale closes with declines across the board

The Magic Millions Tasmanian yearling sale in Launceston closed with across-the-board declines but active trade led to a record-setting clearance rate on Tuesday.

Magic Millions reported 88 yearlings sold from 111 offered for total sales of $1,093,737 ($1,024,500 Australian). The clearance rate established a record at 79.3% but total sales declined 17.6%, compared with the 2011 sale.

Average price declined 7.3% to $12,429 ($11,642 Australian), and median dipped 30% to $7,472 ($7,000 Australian).

"The success of a sale can be seen through the clearance rate," Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox reported. “It was an extremely good day's selling and for the clearance to rise from under 64% to almost 80% is phenomenal.

"Traditionally, this sale has returned lower selling rates, but today it was different with a healthy buying bench from around Tasmania and the mainland competing for some top racetrack prospects.

“The breeders and vendors did a great job presenting the yearlings on offer and there was spirited bidding on a number of lots."

Semba Pty. Ltd. Purchased the sale topper, a filly by Musket out of the stakes-winning Racer’s Edge mare Di’s Angel, for $64,055 ($60,000 Australian) from the consignment of Alva Stud Pty. Ltd., agent.
