First mare in foal to Sea The Stars to be offered at Goffs November

Posted: Friday, September 03, 2010 3:32 PM

The first mare in foal to 2009 European Horse of the Year Sea The Stars to be offered at public auction is scheduled to go through the ring at the Goffs November breeding stock sale.

French stakes winner Karmifira, runner-up in the 1999 Dubai Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (Fr-G1) (French Two Thousand Guineas), has produced three winners, including On Verra, who was runner-up in the 2009 Group 1 Total Prix Marcel Boussac-Criterium des Pouliches (Fr-G1), and  stakes-placed winner Keladora.

Karmifira, by Always Fair out of Karmiska (Fr), by Bikala, is consigned by Forenaghts Stud.

“Selling such a high-class mare underlines the quality that will be available at Goffs in November, and to be offered the opportunity to sell the first mare in foal to the wonderful Sea The Stars is a privilege,” Goffs Chief Executive Henry Beeby said.

“We have received some real quality entries to mares’ sale and are looking forward to promoting a top-class catalog on a global scale.”

Six-time Group 1 winner Sea The Stars, Europe’s Horse of the Year last year, stood his first season this year at the Aga Khan’s Gilltown Stud in Ireland. By Cape Cross (Ire), he capped an undefeated season in 2009 by winning the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Fr-G1) in October at Longchamp, after previous victories in the Stanjames.com Two Thousand Guineas (Eng-G1), Investec Epsom Derby (Eng-G1), Coral Eclipse Stakes (Eng-G1), Juddmonte International Stakes (Eng-G1), and Tattersalls Millions Irish Champion Stakes (Ire-G1).

The international promotion of the November breeding stock sale currently under way includes market visits to Japan, Singapore, Russia, the U.S., Italy, Scandinavia, and in particular increased investment in India from both Goffs and Irish Thoroughbred Marketing.

Entries for the 2010 Goffs November foal and breeding stock sales, which run from November 16 through November 21, will close in early September.
