Frank Stronach, the owner of Adena Springs and chairman of MI Developments Inc., went to $2.3-million to acquire Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) winner Awesome Feather during the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky selected mixed sale on Sunday in Lexington.

“She’s a nice filly, what more is there to say?” Stronach said. “Her disposition—she is very calm. Her race record speaks for itself.”

Stronach said he bought the two-year-old Awesome of Course filly as a racing prospect and plans to race her at three. Awesome of Course is by Adena stallion Awesome Again, and MI Developments recently launched a lucrative series for three-year-old fillies called the Black-Eyed Susan 2.2.

Fred Brei bred the filly in Florida out of the Gone West mare Precious Feather. If Awesome Feather had lost, Brei planned to scratch her from the sale and continue to race her in Florida.

Hidden Brook, agent, consigned Awesome Feather.

“We were thrilled with the price,” said Hidden Brook’s Mike Recio. “She was here to sell, and our reserve was very modest. She doubled our expectations as far as the reserve goes.”

Awesome Feather has won all six of her starts and has earned about $1.4-million.
