The second session of the 2010 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. March sale of selected two-year-olds in training got off to a somewhat slower start Wednesday morning, but agents Steve Young and Patty Miller enlivened proceedings about an hour in with an extended duel ended by Young's final bid of $525,000 for a filly by More Than Ready.
Young declined to identify his client.
"We tried to find a good filly in Miami but we fell in on a bunch of colts," Young said. Young appeared to bid on several horses at the Fasig-Tipton Calder sale of selected yearlings in Miami earlier this month, but did not sign a ticket. "She was the best filly in the sale. I thought she was very special. I hope she's brave and lucky. She handled the dirt really well at [consignor Jerry Bailey’s track] and worked as well as anything on the synthetic here."
The filly breezed on furlong in :10.2 at the presale breeze show.
"That was a little bit more than we thought she might bring," said consignor Jerry Bailey, who bred the filly with partner Lance Robinson in the name of Gulf Coast Farms. "She had, like, a dozen vets and they kept telling us she was the best filly in the sale, with a pedigree.
"We knew we wanted to break her instead of selling her as a yearling. We like to break the good ones and sell them as two-year-olds. I guarantee you she brought a lot more as a two-year-old than she would have as a yearling.”
