The New Zealand Bloodtock Festival yearling sale closed Monday with increases in total sales and average price as well as a new record price.

The two-day Festival sale closed a seven-day run at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 84th National yearling sale, which began with a two-day Premier sale and followed with a three-session Select session. Both the Premier and Select sales closed with average price up more than 25%, and the Festival sale about followed suit with average price increasing 24.9% to $10,292 ($14,987 New Zealand).

The Festival yearling sale closed with 328 yearlings reported as sold for $3,375,565 ($4,915,600), a 9.3% increase compared with 2009. Total sales were up 22.6% and 34.6%, respectively, at the New Zealand Bloodstock Premier and Select yearling sales.

Monday’s session topper established a new benchmark for the Festival yearling sale. New Zealand Bloodstock went to $75,538 ($110,000 New Zealand) to purchase an Elusive City colt from the consignment of Haunui Farm. The colt is out of the winning *Sir Tristram mare Wishing Belle. Last year’s sale topper was also by Elusive City.
