New Zealand Bloodstock’s select yearling sale is poised to roll past last year’s total after a strong second session on Thursday at the Karaka Sales Complex in Auckland.
An Elusive Quality colt from the consignment of Haunui Farm brought $139,312 ($200,000 New Zealand), the highest price on Thursday. Bloodstock agent Phil Cataldo, representing a client form Melbourne, bought the colt out of the Bluebird mare Blue Quail (Aus), a full sister to Australian champion mare Flitter.
With 305 horses sold, total sales stood at $11,060,378 ($15,878,500 New Zealand) through two sessions. With one day to go, the select sale easily should top last year’s total of $17,039,000 New Zealand.
Cumulative average is $36,264 ($52,061 New Zealand), a 39.3% improvement on last year’s final average. The cumulative median of $27,863 ($40,000 New Zealand) was 33.3% higher than last year.
The clearance rate stood at 79% after Thursday, compared with 73% for the entire sale last year. Friday’s final select session will be followed by the Festival sale on Sunday and Monday.
