Session one of the Inglis Easter broodmare sale ended on Friday with across-the-board improvements from last year.
After four days of selling, William Inglis & Son Ltd. reported 506 horses as sold from 630 offered for total sales of $32,664,949 ($35,001,800 Australian), a 59.6% increase from last year, when 374 horses sold.
Average price increased 17.9% to $64,556 ($69,174 Australian), and median increased 19% to $23,331 ($25,000 Australian). The buy-back rate fell from 25.2% a year ago to 19.7%.
“This sale should give breeders confidence looking ahead toward the next breeding season, with the highly credentialed mares being highly sought commodities,” Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster said.
For the second year in a row, Widden Stud consigned the top-priced mare when South African champion Sun Classique, in foal to Oasis Dream (GB), sold post-ring to Norman Tinkler’s Patinack Farm for $1,866,472 ($2,000,000 Australian).
The seven-year-old Fuji Kiseki mare out of Elfenjer, by Last Tycoon (Ire), was South Africa’s champion three-year-old filly of 2007. She also won the Nakheel Dubai Sheema Classic (UAE-G1) in 2008.
“The buying bench was outstanding, with Western Australia and New Zealand regions particularly strong,” Webster said. “This is the sale where you can offer premium mares with full confidence that the buyers will be here to compete.
