Average, median up at Arqana October yearling sale

Posted: Tuesday, October 20, 2009 5:49 PM

Average price and median increased on day two of the Arqana Deauville October yearling sale, which was topped by a bay colt by Shamardal.

The three-day sale got off to a solid start on Monday, and the results improved on Tuesday as average price rose 5.6% to $40,422 (27,000 euros) and median climbed 12.5% to $26,948 (18,000 euros), compared with the corresponding session in 2008.

Arqana reported 129 of 183 yearlings offered as sold for $5,314,705 (3,550,000 euros), a 6.7% decline compared with session two last year.

The session topper, and the highest-priced yearling of the sale through two days, was purchased for $254,507 (170,000 euros) by BBA Ireland.

Consigned by Haras de Grandcamp, the Shamardal colt is out of the Funambule mare Banakill and is a half brother to multiple graded stakes winner Obrigado (Fr) and multiple group stakes winner Coupe de Champe.

Day two also produced the highest price for a filly thus far at the Arqana October yearling sale. Sylvain Vidal purchased the chestnut filly by Medicean for $239,536 (160,000 euros) on behalf of Gerard Augustin-Normand.

Consigned by Haras de Saint Pair, the filly is out of the Group 3-placed winning Monsun mare Anna Mona.
