Tattersalls Book 2 opens strongly

Book 2 of the Tattersalls Ltd. October yearling sale posted an 11.2% increase in total sales on Monday at Newmarket.

Tattersalls reported 201 horses as sold from 247 offered for total sales of $10,118,151 (6,715,500 guineas), an 11.2% increase from the corresponding session at the 2008 sale when 160 horses sold from 240 offered for 6,039,700 guineas. The buy-back rate was just 18.6%, compared with 33.3% a year ago.

Average price declined 11.5% to $50,338 (33,410 guineas). Median dropped 16.7% to $37,668 (25,000 guineas).

Trainer Richard O’Gorman signed for the session topper, a Cape Cross (Ire) colt out of the Sadler’s Wells mare True Crystal for $241,069 (160,000 guineas). Bobby and Honora Donworth’s Round Hill Stud in Ireland consigned the colt.
