The Goffs November sale concluded with lively trade during the second session of its mare sale on Sunday in County Kildare, Ireland, the highest price of which was Fourpenny Lane, who was bought by Hugo Merry for $148,149 (100,000 euros).
The four-year-old Efisio filly has won five races, including a stakes on November 13 on the synthetic surface at Dundalk, and has career earnings of $193,668. Out of the Lion Cavern mare Makara, she was purchased to race in Dubai. Fourpenny Lane was consigned by Portlester Stud.
Goffs reported 304 of 421 horses offered at the two-day sale as sold for total receipts of $8,086,021 (5,458,500 euros), down 29.4% from last year. Average price decreased 27.6% to $26,600 (17,955 euros) and median dipped 28.5% to $14,815 (10,000 euros).
Goffs Chairman Henry Beeby was pleased with the mare sale, which was bolstered by a strong buying bench of Indian breeders.
“We have been satisfied with the two days trading, and especially the really lively day Saturday, which has enjoyed a much improved clearance rate reflecting the buoyancy of the market.
“Whilst the other statistics may be down, we are not despondent as they reflect a smaller catalog which has perhaps lacked some of the stars of last year.
“Our challenge for the future is to convince some Irish breeders that they will achieve the very best prices for their best mares at Goffs just as they have for foals earlier this week and yearlings at the Orby sale. Indeed, so many breeders, buyers, and commentators have noted the strength of our foal trade and we feel we have proved a big point which can only offer encouragement for the future.”
