Weanling, two stallion prospects top Keeneland session

A weanling and two stallion prospects each brought $50,000 bids to top Friday’s session of the Keeneland November breeding stock sale.

Stoney Lane Farm paid $50,000 for a gray or roan weanling filly from the first crop of Grade 2 winner Half Ours out of the unraced Meadowlake mare Fine Prospect. She was consigned by Baccari Bloodstock, agent.

Marcel Zarour went to $50,000 for Sudan (Ire), the winner of the 2007 Gran Premio di Milano (Ity-G1) and ‘08 Golden Gate Fields Turf Stakes (G3). Consigned by Three Chimneys Sales, agent, Sudan is a six-year-old by Peintre Celebre out of the winning Woodman mare Sarabande. He was offered as a stallion prospect.

Jason Hall, agent, purchased four-year-old stakes winner Grand Minstrel for $50,000. Consigned by Lane’s End, agent, he was offered as a racing or stallion prospect. By Grand Slam, the gray or roan colt is out of multiple graded stakes winner Colonial Minstrel, by Pleasant Colony. 
           
Keeneland reported 233 of 294 horses offered as sold for total receipts $1,778,400, a 40.6% drop from a year ago, when 230 horses brought $2,993,700. The average price of $7,633 decreased 41.4% from last year’s average of $13,016, and the median price dropped 50% from $10,000 last year to $5,000.

Through 11 sessions, Keeneland reported 2,494 horses as sold for $157,728,400, an 11.8% drop from last year’s corresponding period, when 2,229 horses brought $178,869,000. The average price of $63,243 is down 21.2% from $80,246 in 2008 while the median has fallen 22.6% from $31,000 in 2008 to $24,000 this year.

The November sale continues through Sunday with sessions beginning daily at 10 a.m. EST.
