Four-year-old broodmare Stormy B tops Keeneland session

Stormy B, a four-year-old mare by Cherokee Run, topped Thursday’s tenth session of the Keeneland November breeding stock sale, but the day closed with declines in total sales, average price, and median.
Keeneland reported 239 horses from 317 offered as sold for $2,253,900, a 12.7% drop from $2,580,500 in total receipts at the corresponding 2008 session. Average dropped 34.9% to $9,431, and median declined 50% to $6,000.
The buy-back-rate was a bright spot, improving from 32.1% at the corresponding session last year to 24.6%.
Audrey/Emily signed the ticket for Stormy B, going to $67,000 to purchase her from the consignment of Elm Tree Farm, agent.
A half sister to multiple graded stakes winner Rush Bay, Stormy B is out of the winning Deputy Minister mare Seoul. A winner at three, Stormy B is in foal to Tiz Wonderful.
Baccari Bloodstock went to $57,000 to land the top-priced weanling of the session. The gray or roan colt from the first crop of 2007 Suburban Handicap (G1) winner Political Force was consigned by Bluegrass Thoroughbred Services Inc. From the family of Grade 1 winners and sires General Assembly and Chief Honcho, he is out of the winning Mountain Cat mare Royal Teresa.
Through ten sessions, Keeneland reported 2,261 horses from 2,863 offered as sold for $155,950,000, an 11.3% decline compared with $175,875,300 after ten days last year. Median is down 28.9% to $27,000, and average price is down 21.6% at $68,974.
The buy-back rate has improved from 30.4% at the same point last year to 21%.
The sale continues through Sunday with sessions beginning daily at 10 a.m. EST.
