Artie Schiller weanling brings $90,000 at Keeneland

Bare Stable paid $90,000 for a weanling filly by Artie Schiller to top Wednesday’s session of the Keeneland November breeding stock sale.
 
Consigned by Elise W. Kendall, agent, the filly is out of multiple stakes winner Love a Ruckus, by Bold Ruckus.

Keeneland reported sales on 236 horses from 306 offered on Wednesday for total receipts of $3,336,700, down 38.2% from last year’s corresponding session, when 232 horses brought $5,395,500.

Average price dropped 39.2% from $23,256 to $14,139. The median of $10,000 was down 33.3% from last year’s $15,000. The buy-back rate was 22.9%, compared with last year’s 24.9%.

Rob McDonald paid the day’s second-highest price of $75,000 for Grade 2 winner Abraaj, who was offered as stallion prospect. By Carson City out of the winning Kris S. mare Kris’s Intention, Abraaj is a full brother to Grade 3 winner and sire Leelanau and a half brother to stakes winner All Trumps.

Abraaj was consigned by Shadwell Farm.

Polo Green Stable, agent, purchased the stakes-placed winning Montbrook mare Secret Brook for $70,000. The six-year-old mare, sold in foal to Seeking the Dia, is out of stakes winner Argos Appeal, by World Appeal. Consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent, Secret Brook is a half sister to multiple stakes winner Special Report.

Through nine days of the 13-day sale, Keeneland has reported that 2,022 horses have been sold for $153,696,100, down 11.3% from last year’s cumulative total through nine days, when 1,821 horses sold for $173,294,800. Average price of $76,012 is down 20.1% from $95,165 in 2008, while the median of $32,000 dropped 25.6% from $43,000.
