Champagne Eyes, a four-year-old stakes-winning Flatter filly, brought $95,000 to top Monday’s session of the Keeneland November breeding stock sale.
Justin Richardson purchased the bay filly out of the stakes-placed Sensitive Prince mare Corking, from the consignment of Bluewater Sales, agent. She won two of seven starts this season, including the Santa Lucia Handicap on April 11 at Santa Anita Park.
Keeneland reported the sale of 260 horses from 311 offered for $6,039,700, down 18.6% from last year’s corresponding session, when 240 horses sold for $7,417,500.
Average price dropped 24.8% from $30,906 last year to $23,230, and the median dropped 20% from $25,000 to $20,000. The buy-back rate improved from 20.5% to 16.4%.
Bluewater Sales also consigned the day’s second-highest priced horse, Cocktail Attire, a four-year-old Distorted Humor filly who brought a final bid of $90,000 from Luis Seglin, agent.
Winner of the 2008 P. G. Johnson Stakes at the Meadowlands, Cocktail Attire is from the family of graded or group stakes winners Kane Hekili, Lord Robyn, and Da Devil, and stakes winners and sires Silver Deputy and Fappavalley.
Through seven days of the 13-day sale, Keeneland reported 1,545 horses as sold for total receipts of $145,456,800, down 10.4% from last year, when 1,397 horses sold for $162,319,700 during the first week. The average price of $94,147 is down 19% from $116,192 to $94,147, while the median of $45,000 is down 25% from last year’s $60,000.
Albert Davis purchased the session’s highest-priced weanling, going to $82,000 for a Tapit filly out of the Jambalaya Jazz mare Jazzy Love. The filly was consigned by Eaton Sales, agent.
The sale continues through Sunday with sessions beginning daily at 10 a.m. EST.
