Weanlings accounted for the five highest prices on Sunday at the Keeneland November breeding stock sale and more horses through the ring were reported as sold, but the session closed with declines in total sales, average price, and median.
Keeneland reported 236 horses as sold from 309 offered for $9,695,900 in total receipts, a 10.5% decline from $10,835,200 at the corresponding session last year. Average price dropped 23% to $41,084, and median dipped 33.3% to $28,000.
The buy-back rate improved from 31.4% last year to 23.6%.
Total Dispersal Bloodstock went to $250,000 to secure the session topper, a bay colt by Malibu Moon out of a full sister to Grade 1 winner and sire Hennessy.
Consigned by Eaton Sales, the session topper was part of the Overbrook Farm dispersal. The colt is out of the Storm Cat mare Restless Cat, who also is a half sister to Grade 1 winner Pearl City, graded stakes winner and sire Shy Tom, and stakes winner Wild Kitty.
The Malibu Moon colt was one of four weanlings to sell for $200,000 or more on Sunday.
Mesquite Ranch purchased a Rock Hard Ten filly for $230,000. Consigned by Gainesway, agent, the filly is out of Grade 1-placed stakes winner Tuzia, by Blushing John.
A Tiznow colt out of the Wild Rush mare Crazy Woman Creek sold for $210,000 to Ben Glass, agent. Hidden Brook, agent, consigned the bay colt.
Whisper Hill Farm landed a Bluegrass Cat filly for $200,000 from the consignment of Eaton Sales, agent. The dark bay or brown filly is a half sister to Canadian champion Ambitious Cat and stakes winner and sire February Storm as well as a half sister to Hong Kong Horse of the Year Electronic Unicorn and 1997 Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Blushing K. D.
Through six days, Keeneland reported 1,285 horses as sold for $139,417,100, a 10% decline compared with $154,902,200 in total sales at the same point during last year’s sale. Average price is down 19% to $108,496, and median is off 21.4% at $55,000.
