After an opening 90 minutes of steady trade at a lower than usual level, bidding picked up at the 2009 Fasig-Tipton Calder sale of selected two-year-olds in training around lunchtime on Tuesday with a smooth filly by Seeking the Gold raising the top price so far to $425,000.
Mike Levy of Bluewater Sales signed the ticket on behalf of Martin Schwartz for the half sister to Group 2 winner Elusive Warning, by Elusive Quality, out of stakes winner Valid Warning, by Valid Appeal.
"She's a lovely filly with a real pedigree and half sister to a very fast horse who is supposed to be coming back over here from Dubai," Levy said. "She performed very well on the racetrack and Marty had great luck down here last year, so hopefully we'll get lucky again."
Tony Bowling's All In Sales consigned the filly, who worked an eighth in :10.40 at the presale breeze show. MHB Bloodstock paid $210,000 for the filly from the last crop of Seeking the Gold at the 2008 Keeneland September yearling sale.
Ben Glass, agent for Gary and Mary West, paid $300,000 for the next horse through the ring, a Broken Vow colt consigned by Nick de Meric, and horses for $235,000 and $390,000 and a horse listed as reserved not attained for $490,000 quickly followed as the tempo of the sale suddenly increased.
