Polar Success highlights Inglis breeding stock sale

Posted: Thursday, June 25, 2009 5:45 PM

Polar Success, winner of the 2003 Golden Slipper Stakes (Aus-G1), sold for $1.2-million Australian ($956,541) on Thursday at the select broodmare session of the Inglis Australian weanling and breeding stock sale.

Twin Palms Stud consigned the eight-year-old Success Express mare out of Patou, by Covetous, as part of the Johnson Family Dispersal. The buyer’s name was not disclosed. Inglis, as agent, signed the ticket on behalf of “a locally based client.”

Polar Success won four of 17 starts, including her one-length victory in the Golden Slipper, the world’s richest race for two-year-olds. She was cataloged in foal to American champion Bernardini. Polar Success has already had two foals, the first being the stakes-placed winner Polaway.

Inglis reported 94 horses sold for $4,518,261 ($5,668,250 Australian), an average of $48,066 ($60,300 Australian). The clearance rate was 77%.

“It was a pleasing day of selling, 14 mares sold for $100,000 (Australian) ($79,711) or more, and the Johnson Family result again underlined the demand for quality mares in the marketplace at the moment,” said Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster.

The sale resumes Friday with the weanling session.
