Keeneland has cataloged 212 two-year-olds for the Keeneland April sale of selected two-year-olds in training on April 6-7.
Both sessions begin at 7 p.m. EST, and the under-tack show will be held on April 2, starting at 10:30 a.m. An online catalog will be available on February 20 on Keeneland’s website. Live streaming video of the breeze show also will be available on Keeneland’s website.
Big Brown, winner of the 2008 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) and Preakness Stakes (G1), was purchased by Paul Pompa Jr. for $190,000 at the 2007 Keeneland April sale.
“Everyone was very happy with the format change we initiated last year,” Geoffrey Russell, Keeneland’s director of sales, said of the switch from a one-day sale to two night sessions.
“And this year we’ve further tweaked the format by holding the preview show prior to opening day of the meet, allowing buyers time to properly evaluate the horses. The sale now falls between the Ashland [Stakes (G1)] and the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (G1), Grade 1 preps for the Kentucky Oaks (G1) and Kentucky Derby (G1), respectively.”
The catalog includes two-year-olds by established sires such as A.P. Indy, Distorted Humor, Dynaformer, Elusive Quality, Empire Maker, Giant’s Causeway, Lemon Drop Kid, Malibu Moon, Medaglia d’Oro, Mineshaft, Mr. Greeley, Pulpit, Sky Mesa, Smart Strike, Speightstown, Storm Cat, Street Cry (Ire), Tiznow, and Unbridled’s Song, among others.
Also cataloged are two-year-olds by promising young sires such as Afleet Alex, Closing Argument, Eddington, Eurosilver, Forest Danger, Ghostzapper, Kitten’s Joy, Leroidesanimaux (Brz), Limehouse, Offlee Wild, Purge, Rock Hard Ten, Saint Liam, Value Plus, and Woke Up Dreamin, among others.
