A filly by Sequalo was purchased for $211,323 ($230,000 Australian) to top session five of Conrad Jupiters Magic Million yearling sale on Sunday, when selling resumed after a one-day break at the Bundall sales complex on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia.
Jim Douros of New South Wales purchased the brown filly, who is out of the winning Potter McQueen mare Princess Potter, the dam of five winners from as many starters. Consigned by Queensland-based Lyndhurst Stud Farm, agent, the filly is a full sister to stakes-placed winner Sammy Sequalo.
The sales company reported 171 horses as sold for total receipts of $5,069,920 ($5,518,000 Australian), an average price of $29,649 ($32,269 Australian). The buy-back rate was 22.2%.
Through the first four days of the eight-session sale, Magic Millions reported 686 horses as sold for $99,310,309 ($107,922,500 Australian). Average price was $144,766 ($157,321 Australian) and the buy-back rate was 17.5%.
Jamie Nielsen, agent, of Queensland went to $165,383 ($180,000 Australian) to secure a Show a Heart colt, the session’s second-highest priced horse. Consigned by Epic Farm of New South Wales, the chestnut colt is out of the winning Knowledge mare Our Teacher’s Pet, a half sister to Group 1-placed stakes winner Consular.
Utah-based pinhooker John Brocklebank, who bought five horses during the first four days of the sale, including a Fastnet Rock colt for $460,000 ($500,000 Australian), continued his buying spree. He purchased four more horses as agent for $322,497 ($351,000 Australian) on Sunday, topped by a Show a Heart colt for $128,631 ($140,000).
Brocklebank plans to offer the horses at the Australian two-year-old sales.
“This is my first time in Australia, and I've been amazed with how wonderful everything thing is,” Brocklebank said. “The people here are incredible and the horses are first class.
“I’m hoping to be able to get a few more yearlings tomorrow and then put together an outstanding draft of two-year-olds for the ready-to-run sales here at the Gold Coast.”
The Magic Millions yearling sale continues Monday.
