Inglis select weanling sale concludes with increase in average

The William Inglis Australian select weanling sale concluded on Friday at Newmarket in Sydney with average price climbing 31% from last year’s sale.
The sale company reported 228 of 288 horses offered as sold for total receipts $7,362,578 ($7,690,950 Australian). Average price was $32,291 ($33,732) and median was $13,880 ($14,500). The buy-back rate was 20.8%.
A More Than Ready filly brought the sale’s highest price of $596,248 ($625,000 Australian) at the opening session on Thursday.
Colm Santry Bloodstock purchased the session topper on behalf of Coolmore from Tyreel Thoroughbreds Stud’s reduction sale. The bay filly is out of Australian Group 3 winner Milanova, by Danehill, a full sister to Coolmore’s Group 1-winning juvenile Holy Roman Emperor, who was retired to stud last year.
“There has been good competition across the two days and overall we are very happy with the results,” said Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster. “Vendors who brought nice horses to the sale were rewarded, which was also pleasing to see.”
Blue Sky Thoroughbreds went to $478,652 ($500,000) to secure Friday’s session topper, a chestnut Encosta de Lago colt, who was consigned by Coolmore Stud, agent.
The chestnut colt is the first foal out of the Royal Academy mare Charmview, an Australian Group 3 winner and half sister to stakes winner Grandiser.
Coolmore sold seven of the top ten highest-priced horses of the select session to lead all consignors. Overall, the Jerrys Plains operation sold 30 weanlings for a $2,393,260 ($2,500,000 Australian).
“This was one of the best drafts we have ever taken to a weanling sale and we got the desired result,” Coolmore Australia General Manager Michael Kirwan said.
“We brought some really nice horses to the sale and it was very pleasing to see the strong competition for them.”
