More Than Ready filly tops first session at Inglis

Posted: Thursday, June 26, 2008 2:52 PM

A regally bred More Than Ready filly sold for $596,248 ($625,000 Australian) to top the opening session of the Inglis Australian select weanling sale in Sydney on Thursday.

Colm Santry Bloodstock purchased the session topper on behalf of Coolmore from the Tyreel Thoroughbreds Stud reduction sale. She is out of Australian Group 3 winner Milanova, by Danehill, a full sister to Coolmore’s Group 1 winning juvenile Holy Roman Emperor who was retired to stud last year.

“This is one of the best pedigrees in the world and obviously the filly has great residual value,” Santry said. “We’re looking forward to getting Holy Roman Emperor back for his second season this year after receiving outstanding reports about his first foals, and it’s wonderful to be able to buy another member of this great family.”

William Inglis and Son reported 120 horses sold from 169 offered for total sales of $3,763,189. Average price was $31,360, and median was $12,402. The buy-back rate was 29%.

“This was a very pleasing start to this sale, which is in a new format for the first time this year,” said Mark Webster, managing director of Inglis and Son. “Competition was very strong on the top lots. Overall, it was a very strong start, and this is borne out in the overall average.”

The select weanling sale continues Friday, to be followed by an open session later in the day. The sale wraps up with a breeding stock session on Sunday.
