A yearling colt from the only crop of deceased 2005 Horse of the Year Saint Liam sold for $220,000 to top the sixth session of the Keeneland January horses of all ages sale on Saturday in Lexington.

Keeneland reported declines in total sales and median on day six as 195 horses of 254 offered sold for $2,749,500. Total sales dipped 26% compared with the corresponding 2007 session. Average price increased 0.6% to $14,100 and median dropped 7.1% to $6,500.

Mike Ryan, agent, purchased the session topper from the consignment of James B. Keogh’s Grovendale, agent. The bay Saint Liam colt is out of the unraced Kingmambo mare Golf Girl and is a half brother to stakes winner Stoneway.

Gary Contessa, agent for Winning Move Stable, purchased the second-highest-priced horse of the session when he went to $145,000 to land Carrick Road, a three-year-old racing prospect. The chestnut Stephen Got Even colt, consigned by Warrendale Sales, agent, is out of stakes-placed winner Beauty’s Due, by Devil His Due.

Kentucky-bred Carrick Road is a half brother to stakes winner Kolo.

Secretsoftheheart brought the highest price of the session for a broodmare or broodmare prospect. Doug Branham purchased the four-year-old Put It Back filly for $100,000 from the consignment of Four Star Sales, agent. Out of the winning Cutlass mare Sweet Secret, Secretsoftheheart has won three of 11 starts, including the 2006 Joe O’ Farrell Juvenile Fillies Stakes, and has earned $166,270.

Through six sessions Keeneland reported 1,340 horses as sold for total receipts of $69,428,200, a 0.5% increase compared with the same point last year. Average price was up 9.9% to $51,812 and the median was unchanged at $20,000.

The sale continues Sunday at 10 a.m. EST with the seventh and final session.
