Tale of the Cat colt tops CTHS session

Winsong Farms purchased a Tale of the Cat colt for $183,788 ($195,000 Canadian), the highest price of the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society’s Canadian-bred selected yearling sale at the Woodbine sales pavilion in Rexdale, Ontario, on Tuesday.

The one-day session will be followed by a preferred session on Saturday. The top-priced colt is out of the winning Unbridled mare Remsheg and hails from the family of Grade 2 winner and sire Exchange Rate.

Gail Wood’s Woodlands, agent, consigned the colt, who was bred in Ontario by Chiefswood Stables Ltd.
Arosa Farms went to $174,363 ($185,000 Canadian) to secure the highest-priced filly, a daughter of Saint Liam filly out of stakes winner Noble Strike, by Smart Strike. Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency consigned the filly, as agent. Arosa is also listed as the filly’s breeder.

The CTHS reported 149 horses sold for $5,495,287 ($5,830,500 Canadian), an 8.5% decline from last year’s select session. Average declined 2.4% to $36,881 ($39,131 Canadian) and median declined 15.6% to $25,448 ($27,000 Canadian).
