Cherokee Run filly tops Washington sale

A Cherokee Run filly out of Silver Echo, by Eastern Echo, sold for $92,000 to top the Washington Thoroughbred Breeders Association’s summer yearling sale at Emerald Downs on Tuesday.

The WTBA reported 114 horses sold from 199 offered for total receipts of $1,279,500, a 42.2% drop from last year when 147 horses sold for $2,214,100.

The buy-back rate increased from 25% a year ago to a sale record 42.7% in 2008. Average priced dropped 25.5% to $11,224, and median dropped 40.9% to $6,500.

David and Jill Heerensperger purchased the sale topper from consignor Northwest Farms, agent. Northwest bred the filly in Kentucky.

The sale topper’s full sister Cherokee Echo – a $42,000 purchase at the 2007 Washington sale – won the $75,000 Barbara Shinpoch Stakes at Emerald Downs on August 31.
