New Freedom tops Dubai Carnival sale

Al Saeed Belhab purchased New Freedom for $626,457 (2.3-million dirhams), the highest price at Tuesday’s Dubai International Racing Carnival sale.

The Brazilian-bred seven-year-old stakes winner is out of the Ghadeer mare Beautiful Maria. By Burooj, New Freedom was an impressive six-length winner of a $110,000 sprint handicap at Nad al Sheba racecourse on January 31.

New Freedom has won five of 20 lifetime starts, 14 in Brazil and six in Dubai, and has earned $110,435.

Also selling on Tuesday was 2004 South African Group 1 winner Grand Emporium (SAf) for $8,716 and two-time San Diego Handicap (G2) winner Choctaw Nation for $6,809.

The Carnival auction will be followed by Wednesday’s Emirates horses in training sale.
