OBSC sale posts increases across the board
The first of two open sessions at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s winter mixed sale concluded on Thursday with increases in gross receipts and average and median prices.
OBSC reported 184 horses as sold for total receipts of $1,158,600, a 3.1% increase compared wiht last year’s corresponding session, when 183 horses brought horses $1,124,000. Thursday’s average price of $6,297 increased 2.5% from last year’s $6,142 figure. Median price was up 8.8%, from $4,000 at the corresponding session in 2007 to $4,350.
Buy-backs increased from 35.8% last year to 37.6%.
Last year’s winter mixed sale was held over four days, and included two consignor preferred sessions and two open sessions. This year’s sale includes one preferred and two open sessions.
Thursday’s session topper was Leyenda Dorada, a Puerto Rican champion three-year-old filly purchased by
Adena Springs for $50,000. Consigned by Derby Daze Farm, agent, Leyenda Dorada is a Gold Legend mare out of the Vigors mare Itsallgreytome who was sold as a broodmare prospect.
Notable members of the immediate family include Irish champion two-year-old filly Woodstream and Irish classic winner and sire Jaazeiro.
The final session of the three-day sale begins on Friday at 11 a.m. EST.
