Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale posts big gains

The Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Winter mixed sale posted a 75.7% increase in total sales at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium on Monday.
Fasig-Tipton reported 65 horses sold from 81 offered for total receipts of $444,800. Last year 45 of 61 horses sold for $253,200.
Average price increased 21.6% to $6,843. Median remained even at $4,000. Buy-back rate decreased from 26.2% to 19.8%.
Machmer Hall and Siena Farm bid $90,000 for the sale topper, the four-year-old Broad Brush mare Mezzo, out of multiple graded stakes winner Soviet Sojourn, by Leo Castelli.
Cataloged as a racing or broodmare prospect and consigned by Bill Reightler, as agent, Mezzo is a half sister to Grade 1 winner and sire Indian Charlie. Reightler was leading consignor with 13 horses sold for $158,900.
Rodney Jenkins paid $42,000 for the highest priced yearling, a Fantasticat colt out of Wumps, by Oh Say. Litz Bloodstock Services consigned the gray or roan colt on behalf of Preston I. Moffett.
