Totals drop at Northern Calif. yearling sale
A Salt Lake filly sold for $37,000 on Tuesday to top the Northern California yearling sale, which saw total proceeds drop 43.9% compared to 2007.
The California Thoroughbred Breeders Association reported 106 horses sold from 187 offered for total sales of $504,700 at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa. At the 2007 sale, 154 horses sold for $899,200.
Average price declined 18.5% to $4,761, and median dropped 37.5% to $2,500. Buy-back rate was 43.5%, compared to 35% a year ago.
The sale topper—named Dear Lady Ann—was out of Dear Lady, by Avenue of Flags, and bred in California by Betty and Larry Mabee. She was consigned by Green Acres Stable, agent for Lercari Thoroughbreds, and purchased by Super Horse.
A Vronsky colt out of Ms Hearts N Arrows, by In Excess (Ire), sold to Sierra Sunset for $25,000, the highest priced colt of the sale. The colt was bred in California by Old English Rancho and Berumen, with Old English consigning, as agent.
