Deauville sale closes with across-the-board gains
The Arqana Deauville August yearling sale concluded on Monday with increases in total receipts, average price, and median.
Total receipts rose 6.7% during the four-day sale as 360 yearlings from 469 offered were reported as sold for $58,869,885 (39,966,000 euros). Last year, 382 horses from 486 offered were reported as sold.
Average price jumped 13.2%, compared with the 2007 August yearling sale, to $163,527 (111,017 euros). Median jumped 16.7% to $103,109 (70,000 Euros), while the buy-back rate increased from 21.4% in ’07 to 23.2%.
Bertrand le Metayer Bloodstock purchased the sale topper on behalf of Nathan Tinkler’s Australian-based Patinack Farm for $1,131,514 (770,000 euros) during Friday’s opening session.
The Irish-bred Galileo (Ire) colt, consigned by Haras de Meautry, is out of Group 3-placed stakes winner Olimpic Girl, by Darshaan, whose dam is multiple group-stakes placed stakes winner Lille Hammer.
John Ferguson, bloodstock adviser to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, landed the sale’s highest-priced filly for $1,028,649 (700,000 euros).
By Seeking the Gold, the German-bred filly is out of Italian Group 1 winner Lune d’Or, by Green Tune, and is from the family of French champion miler Luth Enchantee (Fr).
