Shamardal colt tops second session of Inglis Easter sale

A Shamardal colt sold for $258,361 ($275,000 Australian) to top the one-day second session of the William Inglis and Son Australian Easter yearling sale at Newmarket in Sydney.

Inglis officials termed the inaugural sale “a great success,” with cumulative sales of $9,059,564 ($9,643,000 Australian). The sale follows the three-day select sale, which concluded on Tuesday with a record average price of $355,942 ($376,342 Australian) and record median of $236,449 ($250,000 Australian).

Overall, 116 horses sold for an average price of $78,104 ($83,134 Australian), including 43 yearlings that topped the $93,949 ($100,000 Australian) mark.

The bay colt, consigned by Twin Palms Stud, is out of the winning Salt Lake mare Salty Sal and was purchased by William Inglis on behalf of Hong Kong clients.

Thursday’s sale will be followed by three classic sessions, beginning on Sunday and running through April 29.
