Haafhd filly tops first day of Tattersalls two-year-old sale

A filly by freshman sire Haafhd attracted a final bid of $782,420 (380,000 guineas) to top the first day of the Tattersalls Craven breeze-up sale for two-year-olds on Wednesday evening at Park Paddocks in Newmarket.

Tattersalls cataloged 194 horses for the two-day sale and hosted an under-tack show on Tuesday on the Rowley Mile.

Luke Lillingston of Kern/Lillingston Association purchased the bay filly, who is out of French stakes winner Allespagne, by Trempolino. Consigned by John Hassetts’s The Bloodstock Connection, the filly was bred in Great Britain by Old Mill Stud, who consigned her to the 2007 Tattersalls October yearling sale, where she failed to meet her reserve on a final bid of $102,907. She a half sister to Group 3-placed stakes winner Cruzspiel.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum’s Shadwell Estate Co. Ltd. purchased a New York-bred colt by Central Kentucky-based sire Mr. Greeley for $772,125, (375,000 guineas), the day’s second-highest price.

Consigned by Eddie O’Leary’s Lynn Lodge Stud, Ireland, the chestnut colt is out of the Dehere mare Dehere of the Dog, who won three races and placed in a minor stakes at Prairie Meadow Racetrack. The colt brought $260,000 at the ’07 Keeneland September yearling sale.

The sales company reported 64 horses as sold for $13,336,142 (6,477,000 guineas), up 26% from last year’s corresponding session. Average price increased 36% to $208,377 (101,203 guineas). Median was up 30% from last year to $138,982 (67,500 guineas).
