A Langfuhr colt equaled a world record by drilling one furlong in :09.60 on Monday, the fastest eighth-mile clocking at the under-tack show for the Keeneland April sale of selected two-year-olds in training.

Consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, agent, the Langfuhr colt's time equaled a world record for a two-year-olds in training sale. Out of the winning Rubiano mare Coral Sea, the gray or roan colt is a half brother to 2008 Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) winner and Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) hopeful Cool Coal Man.

The Langfuhr colt is from the female family of English and Irish champion and influential sire Storm Bird.

“I think of him as a two-turn horse,” Brennan said. “I was a little surprised he went that fast.

“He’s just deceptive in his movement. He’s a very powerful colt. He just really gets over the ground quicker than you think.”

Colts by Aldebaran and Forestry both worked two furlongs in :20.40, the co-fastest quarter-mile clocking on Monday.

Consigned by Kirkwood Stables, agent, the Aldebaran colt is out of the winning Storm Cat mare Propriety and is a full brother to Grade 1-placed winner Grace Anatomy. The Aldebaran colt’s second dam is Grade 1 winner Plenty of Grace, a half sister to 1999 champion turf female Soaring Softly.

The Forestry colt is out of Grade 2 winner Broad Dynamite, by Broad Brush. Consigned by McKathan Brothers, agent, the bay colt is from the family of 1987 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) winner Very Subtle.

“We have the buyers here to see the horses. That’s the most important part,” said Geoffrey Russell, Keeneland’s director of sales. “Hopefully, they’ve inspected them last week as we anticipated they would, and now they have to finalize their decision making process based on the under-tack show.”

Russell expressed sympathy for agent Becky Thomas of Sequel Bloodstock. Thomas consigned a Jump Start colt who was euthanized after suffering a broken tibia. The colt completed a one-furlong workout in :10.60.

Russell called the colt’s injury a “freak thing—something that is not normal.”

“I wouldn’t wish it on anybody,” Russell said. “Unfortunately, these are things that do happen when we put horses on the racetrack.”

Workout videos from the under-tack show are available at www.keeneland.com.
