West Point catalogs trio of Grade 1 winners for sale

Posted: Tuesday, October 02, 2007 6:27 PM

West Point Thoroughbreds’s Grade 1-winning fillies Irish Smoke, Dream Rush, and Lear’s Princess will be cataloged in the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November mixed sale on November 4.

“All three fillies will run in Breeders’ Cup races at Monmouth Park later this month, and we are fortunate to be in this situation,” West Point Thoroughbreds President Terry Finley said.  “We will carefully evaluate their performance and the needs and desires of our partners, Lewis Lakin and John Sikura, our investors, and our shareholders as we approach the sale date.”

Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales, agent, will consign the three fillies.

“This is a unique opportunity to sell a group of fillies of this quality,” Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales President John G. Sikura said. “West Point Thoroughbreds and Lewis Lakin have had a great year at the racetrack and we are pleased they have chosen us to sell their racing stars.”

Irish Smoke, a two-year-old Smoke Glacken filly, is undefeated in two career starts and won the Spinaway Stakes (G1) on September 2 at Saratoga Race Course. Irish Smoke is trained by Patrick Biancone and is co-owned by Lakin.

Multiple Grade 1 winner Dream Rush is co-owned by Lakin and Sikura. The three-year-old Wild Rush filly has won her previous two starts in the Darley Test Stakes (G1) on August 4 at Saratoga and the Prioress Stakes (G1) on July 7 at Belmont Park.

Lear’s Princess defeated Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Rags to Riches in the Gazelle Stakes (G1) on September 15 at Belmont. The three-year-old Lear Fan filly is trained by Kiaran McLaughlin.

“West Point Thoroughbreds has had a remarkable year at the racetrack and is a leading contender for an Eclipse Award as outstanding owner,” Fasig-Tipton President Walt Robertson said. “We hope they enjoy a remarkable year in the sales ring as well.”
