Keeneland announces January catalog

Posted: Wednesday, November 21, 2007 5:27 PM

Keeneland has cataloged 2,547 horses for its 2008 January horses of all ages sale, scheduled for January 7-13 in Lexington.

Of the 2,547 horses to be offered, 1,201 are broodmares, 862 are yearlings, 482 are horses of racing age, and two are stallions.

The catalog will be online at www.keeneland.com beginning December 4. Print catalogs will be available the week of December 17.

“The January Sale has developed a very international clientele with strong support from regional horsemen and as well as emerging market buyers,” said Keeneland Director of Sales Geoffrey Russell.

This year, Keeneland will offer broodmares in-foal to such leading stallions as A.P Indy, Afleet Alex, Distorted Humor, Elusive Quality, Empire Maker, Forestry, Fusaichi Pegasus, Giant’s Causeway, Malibu Moon, Mineshaft, Mr. Greeley, Posse, Smart Strike Speightstown, Storm Cat, Street Cry (Ire), Successful Appeal, Tale of the Cat, Unbridled’s Song and Vindication, among others.

In 2006, the January Sale produced record total sales of $72,868,200, and was highlighted by the sale of Grade 1 winners Point Ashley and Downthedustyroad for $1.8-million and $1.5-million, respectively.

Stakes-winning alumni of the January sale include 2007 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (G1) winner Dominican, 2007 Super Derby (G2) winner Going Ballistic, 2007 Modesty Handicap (G3) winner Bridge Game, 2007 Taylor Made Matchmaker Stakes (G3) winner Roshani, and 2007 Noble Damsel Handicap (G3) winner Dance Away Capote.
