Total receipts, average increase at Fasig-Tipton Texas

Although the number of horses offered and sold were nearly the same as last year, the Fasig-Tipton Texas December mixed sale posted gains in total receipts and average price at the conclusion of the one-day sale on Sunday at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas.
A pair of broodmares, both offered in foal to perennial leading Texas sire Valid Expectations, brought the day’s top price of $35,000.
Harvey Trimble secured Moon Tide, a ten-year-old mare by Storm Bird, who was consigned by Lane’s End Texas, agent for Stonerside Farm.
Moon Tide is out of the Grade 2-placed winning Highland Blade mare Highland Tide, a half sister to Grade 1 winner and sire Super May and multiple Grade 3 winner and sire Ide. Moon Tide has produced two winners, including stakes winner Moon Kid, by Lemon Drop Kid.
Heiligbrodt Racing Stable purchased the co-highest priced horse of the sale, multiple stakes winner Taffy, a 12-year-old Saratoga Six mare.
Lane’s End Texas, agent for TRB Thoroughbreds consigned the bay mare, who is out of stakes-placed winner Alittlebitsuperior, by Total Departure. Taffy is a half sister to stakes winner Superior Storm.
Fasig-Tipton reported 125 horses as sold from 160 offered for total receipts of $574,700, a 6.2% increase from last year when 124 horses of 161 offered were sold for $541,300. Average price was up 5.3% to $4,598, compared with $4,365 in 2006. Median was down 25% to $2,100 compared with $2,800 last year.
The buy-back rate was 21.9%, down from 23% in 2006.
Heiligbrodt Racing Stable also bought the day’s third-highest priced horse, Valleybrook Gal, for $32,000. The seven-year-old Clever Trick mare was offered in foal to freshman sire Cactus Ridge.
A half sister to Grade 3-placed stakes winner Katy Kat and multiple stakes winner Yaddo Cat, Valleybrook Gal is out of the stakes-placed winning Fit to Fight mare Kombat Kate. Grade 1 winner and prominent sire Wild Again is a notable member of the female family.
