Fasig-Tipton sale closes with declines in average, total receipts

Posted: Monday, December 03, 2007 7:37 PM

The two-day Fasig-Tipton Midlantic December mixed sale concluded Monday with decreases in average price and total sales.

A weanling colt by Golden Missile sold for $62,000 on day two to top the sale. Strait Draw Stable purchased the chestnut colt out of the unraced Wild Zone mare Precious Queenie from the consignment of Thomas J. Gallo III Sales Agency, agent.

Fasig-Tipton reported 287 horses as sold from 474 offered for $2,056,500, a 23.2% decline from the 2006 sale in which 338 horses brought $2,678,300.

Average price dipped 9.6% to $7,166, compared with $7,924 during the 2006 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic December mixed sale. Median increased 9.4% to $3,500, compared with $3,200 last year. The buy-back rate increased from 33.6% in 2006 to 39.5% this year.

Josham Farms, agent, purchased a weanling Not For Love filly for $60,000, the second-highest price of the sale. Consigned by Takaro Farm, the dark bay or brown filly is a half sister to stakes-placed winner Metal Chimes. Out of the unplaced Cure the Blues mare Metal Blues, the Not For Love filly is from the immediate family of Canadian champion Leonnatus Anteas and English champion Noalcoholic.

Immune to Gloom brought $40,000 to top the opening session, and was the highest-priced broodmare or broodmare prospect in the sale. David Wade, agent, purchased the multiple stakes-placed winner of $165,968 in four racing seasons from the consignment of Mr. and Mrs. Rick Abbott’s Charlton, agent.
