Fasig-Tipton Midlantic opens with declines

Posted: Sunday, December 02, 2007 6:35 PM

The Fasig-Tipton Midlantic December mixed sale posted across-the-board declines Sunday during the opening session at Timonium Sales Pavilion in Timonium, Maryland.

Day one featured broodmares, broodmare/racing prospects, and stallions. The two-day sale continues on Monday at 10 a.m. EST with weanling, yearlings, and horses in training offered.

Fasig-Tipton reported 133 horses as sold from 213 offered for total receipts of $782,800, a 30% decline compared with last year’s opening session in which 171 horses from 265 offered brought $1,117,600. Average price declined 9.9% to $5,886, and median dipped 18.9% to $3,000.

The buy-back rate rose slightly from 35.5% on day one last year to 37.6% in 2007.

Immune to Gloom brought $40,000 to top the session. David Wade, agent, purchased the multiple stakes-placed winner of $165,968 in four racing seasons from the consignment of Mr. and Mrs. Rick Abbott’s Charlton, agent.

Immune to Gloom finished second in the 2005 Pistol Packer Handicap at Philadelphia Park. She placed third in 2006 in both the Maryland Million Distaff Handicap and American Beauty Stakes.

A half sister to stakes winner Dirge, Immune to Gloom is out of stakes-placed winner Sad Refrain, by Smarten.

Nancy Canning purchased Group 3-placed winner Danyross (Ire) for $35,000, the second-highest price of the session, from the consignment of Marshall W. Silverman, agent for the complete dispersal of Bittersweet Farm.

The 12-year-old Danehill mare has produced five winners from six starters, including stakes-placed winner Mighty Vow, by Broken Vow. Danycross is out of the winning Bold Lad mare Rosita.
