Broodmares by One Way Love, Gulch top CTHS winter mixed sale
Broodmares in foal to Wando and Langfuhr each brought $35,000 to top the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society Ontario Division’s winter mixed sale on Saturday.
Jack Johnson purchased Aoife, a four-year-old mare by One Way Love in foal to Wando, from the consignment of Schonberg Farm, agent. Paul O’Brien bought Red Skimmmer, a four-year-old Gulch mare in foal to Langfuhr.
O’Brien also bought the sale’s top weanling, a Bold Executive filly out of Northernset, for $23,000. A Storm Boot filly topped the yearling portion of the sale, selling for $15,000 to Richard Hogan, agent.
CTHS reported the sale of 115 horses for $568,300, which was down 4.1% from the 2006 sale in which 125 horses sold for $592,300.
“While severe weather warnings may have hampered out-of-town buyer participation, we’re pleased with [the] results,” said Julie Coulter, general manager for CTHS’s Ontario Division.
A predicted snowstorm hit the Toronto area just after the sale ended, which forced the cancellation of Woodbine’s live racing on Sunday.
