Bertrando colt tops Barretts yearling sale at $120,000

A colt by Bertrando topped the one-day Barretts October yearling sale at Fairplex Park on Tuesday where average rose 17% and the median jumped sharply.
Barretts reported 222 yearlings sold for gross receipts of $2,228,300 while last year, when the sale was split into two days with a select session, 315 yearlings were sold for a total of $2,702,800. Average jumped from $8,580 a year ago to $10,037, with median increasing to $6,750, a 60.7% increase from $4,200 last year.
Leading buyer Jeff Bonde purchased four yearlings for $184,000, including the sale-topper from the consignment of River Edge Farm, agent, for $120,000. The colt is out of the Aloma's Ruler mare Reason to Be, who is a half sister to Grade 3 winner Bountiful Native and stakes winner. True and Blue. Reason to Be is the dam of six foals, two of which have raced, with one winner.
Havens Bloodstock Agency was leading consignor with 32 yearlings sold for $304,700 and River Edge Farm was next with seven sold for $229,500.
