Full sister to Galileo brings $1.6-million at Tattersalls

Posted: Friday, November 30, 2001

A full sister to dual European classic winner Galileo (Ire) was purchased by John Magnier for approximately $1,643,795 (1.1-million guineas) at the Tattersalls December foal sale in Newmarket on Friday. The price paid for the daughter of Sadler's Wells is the second-highest ever at the sale, ranking only behind the $4,424,438 (2.5-million guineas) Satish Sanan paid at the 1997 December sale for Padua's Pride (Ire), who is a half brother to 1991 English highweight and Epsom Derby (Eng-G1) winner Generous. Padua's Pride has just one win in seven career starts and has not raced since an off the board finish at Aqueduct in January.

The Sadler's Wells filly, who was foaled in Ireland on April 30, was consigned to the sale to dissolve a partnership that is believed to include Coolmore, of which Magnier is one of the principals, and David Tsui.

She is out of the Miswaki mare Urban Sea, a European champion who is a half sister to English classic winner King's Best; Group 3 winner Allez Les Trois, dam of Prix du Jockey-Club (French Derby) (Fr-G1) winner Anabaa Blue; stakes-placed Turbaine, and Anzille, dam of German Group 1 winner Anzillero.

Urban Sea has produced Group 3 winner Urban Ocean, stakes winner Melikah, who placed in both the Epsom Oaks (Eng-G1) and Irish Oaks (Ire-G1), and French Group 1-placed Black Sam Bellamy, who is a full brother to Galileo.

Complete information on the sale can be found on the Tattersalls Web site at http://www.tattersalls.com/
