Doncaster November mixed sale opens

Posted: Monday, November 19, 2001

Trainer Gary Moore outbid agent Jimmy Byrne for the three-year-old Kahyasi colt Pardishar to top the opening session of the Doncaster Bloodstock Sales November mixed sale on Monday in Doncaster, England.

Moore secured the colt for approximately $59,240 (40,000 English guineas) for the English-bred colt, who is out of Parapa, by Akarad. Consigned by Freemason Lodge, agent for the Aga Khan Studs, Pardishar has won one of three career starts with one third-place finish for $8,467 in earnings.

Byrne, bidding in the name of J. Byrne International, was able to secure the second highest-priced horse of the day when he secured stakes winner Mana-Mou-Bay for $38,512. The four-year-old Ela-Mana-Mou gelding won the 1999 Washington Singer Stakes and has two wins in 15 career starts for $39,960 in earnings.

The opening session—which had 71 flat-bred yearlings and 130 horses in training cataloged—saw 122 of the 146 horses offered sell for a total of $584,347, an average of $6,095.

One of the horses that did not reach their reserves was the two-year-old gelding Welsh Emperor, who went unsold after a bid of $85,911. The Irish-bred son of Emperor Jones out of Simply Times, by Dodge, has won two races this year and placed six times in ten starts for $16,754 in earnings.
