Tiznow's dam sold for $2.6-million at Keeneland

Posted: Tuesday, November 06, 2001

Cee's Song, the 15-year-old dam of dual Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) winner and 2000 Horse of the Year Tiznow, highlighted the early hours of the second session of the Keeneland November breeding stock sale, bringing a $2.6-million bid from Gerry Dilger of Dromoland Farm. Dilger declined to talk to the press after outlasting Aaron Jones for the daughter of Seattle Song who is also dam of multiple Grade 2 winner Budroyale, second in the Classic in 1999 and the earner of more than $2.8-million. Cee's Song is in foal to Cee's Tizzy, sire of Tiznow and Budroyale.

"Why did I split her up from her foal?" consignor Craig Bandoroff lamented as the duel for the mare escalated far beyond presale estimates. "That was far more than I expected."

Cee's Song's weanling full sister to Tiznow and Budroyale will be sold on Saturday. Both horses are being sold to settle the estate of the late Cecelia Straub-Rubens, who bred Tiznow and Budroyale and owned Tiznow in partnership with Michael Cooper before her death shortly after last year's Breeders' Cup at Churchill Downs.

Also the winner of the Santa Anita Handicap (G1) this year, Tiznow has earned $6,427,830 and ranks 21st on the list of all-time leading earners.

With most of the more attractive offerings slated for later in the day, Cee's Song was the only seven figure sale in the early going of Tuesday's session.—John P. Sparkman
