Fasig-Tipton to conduct benefit auction for relief fund

Posted: Thursday, November 01, 2001

As part of the Stallion Access sale to be held in Lexington on November 9, Fasig-Tipton Kentucky will feature a special auction to benefit the New York Heroes Fund. Among the items to be auctioned will be stallion seasons to dual classic winner and Horse of the Year candidate Point Given, 1999 champion sprinter Artax, multiple Grade 1 winner Unbridled's Song, and multiple Grade 1 winner Free House. The Heroes Fund was established by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, Breeders' Cup Ltd., and the New York Racing Association to benefit the families of rescue workers and victims who died in the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center. More than $5-million has already been raised, including $2.5-million from purse earnings pledges by owners, jockeys, and trainers at the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships at Belmont Park on October 27.

"Members of the Thoroughbred community have given generously to the Heroes Fund," said Breeders' Cup President D.G. Van Clief Jr. "and we hope that they will continue to support this cause by participating in the Fasig-Tipton auction."

Other auction items include equine art and VIP travel and accommodations packages to next year's Triple Crown races, Breeders' Cup, and U.S. Open Tennis Tournament.

The Stallion Access sale begins at 7:30 p.m. and the sale of items to benefit the fund is expected to begin at approximately 8:30 p.m.
