Tiznow's weanling full sister brings $950,000 at Keeneland

Posted: Friday, March 30, 2001

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum's Godolphin Racing purchased a weanling full sister to reigning Horse of the Year and two-time Breeder's Cup Classic (G1) winner Tiznow for $950,000 at the Keeneland November breeding stock sale on Saturday.By Cee's Tizzy out of the Seattle Song mare Cee's Song, the bay youngster consigned by Denali Stud, agent, is also a full sister to Budroyale, a multiple Grade 2 winner and runner-up in the 1999 Breeders' Cup Classic (G1).

English agent Dick O'Gorman did the bidding for Godolphin in the sales pavilion and was connected by cell phone to Godolphin bloodstock agent John Ferguson. O'Gorman said the filly will be sent to Raceland Farm (a division of Sheikh Mohammed's Darley Stud), in Paris, Kentucky.

"With that pedigree, this was always going to be the price range she was going to make," O'Gorman said.

Headley Bell of Nicoma Bloodstock was the underbidder.

Craig Bandoroff of Denali Stud said the filly brought what he expected.

"I thought she'd bring $750,000 to $1-million," Bandoroff said. "I'm still not sure if she would have brought more if she'd been sold on the heels of the mare (Cee's Song was sold as in foal to Cee's Tizzy to Dromoland Farm for $2.6-million on Tuesday), right after the excitement and enthusiasm of that. But everyone is delighted. It's always fun to get one like her to sell."

The California-bred filly is the eighth foal from the mating of Cee's Tizzy to Cee's Song. In addition to Tiznow and Budroyale, offspring include gelding Ceebet, from the 1992 foal crop, who did not make the races until his four-year-old year and was winless in six starts. Balboa Betty, foaled in 1994, won once in 15 career starts and earned $38,120. Tizso, a filly foaled in 1995, was winless in two starts as a three-year-old. Tizsweet finished third in her only career start as a two-year-old last year and two-year-old colt Tizbud has yet to make the races.
