Gross soars at Fasig-Tipton Midlantic's first session

Total receipts posted a sharp increase during the opening session of the two-day Fasig-Tipton Midlantic December mixed sale on Sunday in Timonium, Maryland.Fasig-Tipton reported sales on 192 of the 283 horses offered in the session for a total of $1,783,800, an increase of 39% from last year when the same number of horses sold for a total of $1,283,000.
The session's average of $6,974 was up 4.3% compared to last year's $6,682, while median was virtually unchanged at $2,700, compared to $2,600 in 2000.
Buckles and Kinks, sold in in-foal to 1994 Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) winner Concern, attracted a final bid of $90,000 to top the session. Consigned by Walnut Green, agent for the estate of Nancy Bayard, the seven-year-old daughter of Waquoit was purchased by Edward Schuler. A half sister to four stakes-placed runners, Buckles and Kinks is already the dam of two-year-old stakes winner Bronze Abe.
The final session begins at 10:00 a.m. EST on Monday.
